Character Spotlight: Keira Feldman

Character Spotlight: Keira Feldman

Hello, reader!

I'm excited to share with you the first in what I hope will be a longer series of character spotlights. Today, we're diving into the world of Keira Feldman, the heart and soul of my latest fantasy series, The Kingdom Adventures! I loved creating her journey, and I hope this little blog post gives you a chance to connect with her in a new way. πŸ₯°

(For those of you who haven't read my series yet, don't worry! There are no major spoilers ahead! πŸ˜‰)

Who is Keira Feldman?

Keira Feldman is the first face you'll see when you begin reading The Kingdom Adventures, and she is one of two main protagonists in the series. At sixteen years old, Keira appears to be just an ordinary farm girl from Recolta Fields in Conwald, but her quiet exterior hides a heart full of courage waiting to be discovered. Daughter of Jack and Flora Feldman, Keira has grown up tending the land, caring for animals, and living a relatively simple life β€” until circumstances force her to confront the emerging darkness threatening her world.

At the Heart of Keira

Something I really love about Keira is that she's not driven by ambition or greed, but by a selfless love for her family. Her deepest desire is to find her long-lost brother, Gilbert (who left Conwald three years ago) and reunite her family. This mission becomes intertwined with her growing realization that she has a role to play in the larger conflict between the kingdoms and the Dark Ones.

Although she'll ultimately do anything for her family, she inwardly struggles to find the courage to step out and take a chance. Most importantly, this hesitance affects her relationship with the Maker. She genuinely wants to please Him, yet her fears prevent her from embracing the purpose He has for her.

Defining Character Traits

Keira is a hardworking character, evident in the mental and physical endurance she's built through years of farm labor. This work ethic is matched by her deep compassion β€” she feels others' suffering deeply, making her especially sensitive to Gilbert's situation and her parents' worry over his disappearance.

Though she's naturally shy and prefers to observe rather than be at the center of attention, when she does speak, her sincerity shines through. (Without giving too much away, this character trait supports Prince Wilkin perfectly, who needs a trustworthy companion after the dark betrayals in his life.)

Creating Keira

I first met Keira while crafting the theme for the novel as a whole. I wanted to write a story based on the real spiritual battles that happen all around us. Ephesians 6:10-18 played a major role in the making of The Kingdom Adventures, with the plot addressing themes like using God's Promises to fight against Satan's lies. But as most of you probably know, a book needs characters to pull this off! πŸ˜„ For each of my protagonists, I hoped to highlight different aspects of this "wielding the truth" theme.

While Wilkin struggles more with accepting the Promises, Keira finds it difficult to act in confidence because of them. Her journey, in many ways, echoes moments in my life when I mentally grasped the gospel but didn't live in its amazing reality, having confidence that despite all my sins and mistakes, I am forgiven and held fast by God's love.

The Kingdom Adventures series wouldn't be the same without Keira, and it was so awesome developing her strength and courage as the books progressed. πŸ₯°
