5 Things I Want New Writers To Know

5 Things I Want New Writers To Know

Hello, reader! πŸ˜€

If you're reading this blog post, chances are you've already started a writing project, or you're considering a grand story idea. That's great! *applause and cheers*

Down below, I'll share five things I want all new authors to know when beginning their writing journey. I hope these short tips are helpful and that you leave feeling encouraged and inspired.

1. You won't always enjoy writing

2. Write what you love

3. Take breaks

4. There are different types of writers

5. Ask yourself why you write

So, without further ado, let me expand on these five points!

1. You won't always enjoy writing

Unfortunately, it's true. There are times when I sit down at my computer and wonder why on earth I started this project in the first place. There are times when my characters go rogue and completely ruin the plot (don't laugh, this is extremely serious!😐). Yep, I'm just going to say it: there are times when I don't like writing.

*you gasp in utter horror*

It happens to everyone, so don't be alarmed if you're just not "feeling it" some days. When this happens, I recommend pushing through! And, if you're an avid writer like me, remember that this season won't last forever. You'll be back to loving those naughty characters again!πŸ˜‰

2. Write what you love

Write what you want to see on the book shelf. Don't be afraid to add your favorite elements, whether it be slapstick humor, epic battles on pirate ships, Christian morals, slow-burn romance, or witty characters. It can even be small objects that you simply ADORE, such as a steaming cup of coffee, a stormy afternoon, or a fluffy cat curled on the sofa.

For me, I love writing all things horses! Even in my action-adventure books, I always give my main character an equine friend (and, if you haven't noticed, I usually get carried away describing a horse's soulful eyes and majestic formπŸ€ͺ).

3. Take breaks

Often, I forget about this one while creating my stories, but it's SO IMPORTANT. I cannot stress this enough! Be sure to take breaks when you find yourself becoming tired or frustrated with your project. Even a half an hour walk outside, for example, can make a world of a difference.

4. There are different types of writers

You won't be a J.R.R. Tolkien, Jane Austen, or Suzanne Collins. You will have your own unique style and vibe. And that's great! God has made everyone different and special.

Negatively comparing yourself to other writers will only cause stress and heartache. Remember, there are different types of readers, too, and some of them might be waiting for books like yours!🀩

5. Ask yourself why you write

When pouring so much time into a project, it's important to remember why

Why are you passionate about writing? Why create stories and not another form of art? Do you have a goal you're striving to reach? Or do you consider it your way of ministering to others?

Answering these questions can be a great source of motivation to write your story even when the going is tough.

Well, there you have it. I hope these tips were helpful and that they encouraged you in your writing journey!
